What is Blogging?

How do you get started?

How could it be used in Science Communication?

In this workshop presented by Mike Seyfang, participants will go through the process of setting up an account and will have made at least one blog post by the end of the session. The workshop will also will investigate blog conversations through comments and track backs and the use of RSS reader feeds for blogs.

Mike is a “seasoned veteran of information technology and related industries with an extensive network of connections who can help you with pretty much any challenge involving computing, the internet or emerging trends such as online social media”. For further information go to www.mikeseyfang.com

Depending on audience interest Mike will also investigate other social media tools such as Twitter, podcasts, Flickr, YouTube, blip.tv and Audioboo.

All participants will need to bring their own wireless internet (wi-fi) capable machine and have an email account that can be accessed from a web browser (for example gmail). Please make sure you know your user name and password for your email account.

Cost: ASCSA members free, Non-members $20 (payment at the door)

Maximum number of participants: 20, so bookings essential.

Australian Science Communicators (ASC) is a network of over 400 people working in science and technology communication across Australia and overseas. It has been running since 1994.

Members include journalists and broadcasters employed by major media outlets, freelance writers and consultants, scientists, teachers and public affairs officers working for research organisations, laboratories and universities. We are drawn together by a desire to improve our skills, exchange ideas and build synergies, and in general to advance the profession of science communication.
